Human Development & Family Science Program

The human development and family science program at UL Lafayette will provide you with the tools to understand and work with children and families. As a human development and family science major, you’ll learn about:

  •  the various stages of human growth and development over the lifespan
  •  families in society
  •  diverse relationships within families
  •  human sexuality
  •  family resource management
  •  parenting
  •  family law and public policy

You’ll be trained to integrate your knowledge of child/adolescent development, adult life stages, and human relationships, so you’ll be prepared for a career in service.

Our students gain experience through internships and research opportunities, which is a hallmark of the human development and family science program. Our students intern at hundreds of different sites every semester, including assisted living facilities, nursing homes, child care centers, rape crisis centers, battered women’s shelters, hospices, and local, state and federal government agencies.
